Emerging Soil Management Options for California

This conference was held April 22, 1998 at Five Points, California and April 23, 1998 at UC Davis, California.

This conference brings together pioneering farmers, researchers and consultants from California's Central Valley and from around the United States to discuss relationships between tillage, soil organic matter and soil quality in light of recent research finds and innovative production practices that are surfacing throughout the country. It was formulated several monts ago as an outgrowth of the West Side On-Farm Demonstration Project's interest in evaluating soil building practices that may be relevant to Central Valley production systems.

The goals of this conference are to present information on the importance of soil carbon sequestration and relationships between tillage and soil organic matter storage and to evaluate opportunities and constraints to reduced tillage production techniques in California.
