Overall Plant Symptoms |
V2: mild wilting during heat, recovers overnight. Leaf canopy and vigor reduced. Bottom portion of plant distressed, leaf burn. |
Leaf Symptoms |
Oldest leaves: vein and leaf yellowing followed by leaf burning in an angular or "V" pattern between veins. |
Stem Symptoms |
Internal browing of lower branches, no discoloration of pith or leaf stems. |
Root and Fruit Symptoms |
Root: faint browing of the xylem tissue, can be confused with Fusarium wilt. |
Disease Source |
Infested soil. Very wide host range including many weeds. Commonly found in most cultivated soils. |
Source Peristence |
Eight to ten years of full infection potential. |
Favoring Conditions |
Cool soil temperatures, minor root injuries and neutral to alkaline soils. |
Critical Crop Time |
Symptoms more pronounced as crops stress increases. Often a component in early field decline or collapse. |
Controls/Management |
Resistant varieties (race1). Fumigation. Crops stress minimization. |
