Kern County Overview

The warm climate, rich soils, wise use of water, and the efforts of Kern County's vegetable growers and workers have made Kern County one of the top vegetable producing regions in the nation. Kern County is the leading producer of carrots with over 80% of the total national production. Other important vegetable crops grown here include potatoes, lettuce, garlic, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, and watermelons. Over 100,000 acres of vegtables are farmed each year, with an estimated value of over $320 million.
